워싱턴 포스트에 Valerie Strauss기자는 다음과 같은 사진을 이번년도 5월달에 기재를 했습니다.

논의에 앞서
기독교의 '가치관'에 대해서는 저는 말할 수 있는 바가 많지 않습니다. 무신론자기 때문에 일단 잘 알지도 못할 뿐더러, 사람의 삶의 가치에 있어서 '오답'은 있을 수 있을 지언정 (다른 사람을 해하거나, 선택하지 못하는 것을 기반으로 차별을 하는 사상을 옹호하는 것, 예를 들어 인종차별) '정답'은 있을 수가 없으니까요.
하지만 기독교가 가르치는 '과학' 특히 한창 세상에 대한 기초 지식이 형성될 나이에 행해지는 기본적인 교육에 대해서 종교가 취하는 태도 및 개입에 대해서는 저는 동의할 수 없습니다.
지구의 나이에 관하여
지구의 나이는 4.55 billion years 즉 45억년으로 추정되고 있는데, 이는 어떠한 '사상'에 기반한 주장이라기 보단, 주위에서 관찰되는 현상에 기반한 유추되는 논리적인 결론입니다.
공룡과 화석에 관하여
공룡이 6천 5백만년전 운석충돌의 인해서 멸종이 유발되었다는 것은 여러가지 근거가 있는, 대부분의 과학자들이 동의한
가설입니다.
대규모 홍수로 인해서 공룡이 멸종되었다는 주장은 뒷받침하는 증거가 없습니다. 대규모 홍수 자체가 일어날 수가 없기 때문인데, 만약에 대기에 있는 모든 물이 전부다 비로 내린다고 하더라도 땅을 약 2.5cm밖에 잠기게 하지 못합니다.
또한 모순적이게도 공룡 중 엄청나게 커다란 종인 아파토사우르스(예전 명칭이 브론토사우르스인데 아파토사우르스가 더 정확한 명칭입니다)가 공룡의 대표 종으로서 나와있는데, 다음은 그 공룡의 다리뼈로 추정되는 화석의 사진입니다.
이러한 공룡을 예를 들고 있는데 오히려 노아의 방주에 그 크기를 맞추기 위해서 공룡의 평균적인 크기가 양만했다고 아이에게 강요하고 있는 것은 모순적입니다.
만약에 대홍수로 인해서 한번에 화석이 만들어졌다면 화석은 하나의 지층에 거의다 모여 있어야 합니다. 하지만 그렇지 않죠.
화석은 수평적으로도 풍부하게 존재하지만, 수직적으로도 풍부하게 존재합니다. 즉, 다양한 시기에 형성이 됬습니다.
왜? 종교적인 믿음에 대해서 과학적인 반박을 시도하는 것인가?
왜냐하면 종교가 지속적으로 과학의 범주를 침범하여 교육이 아닌 세뇌를 아이들에게 행할려고 하기 때문입니다.
우리나라에서도 진화론도 신앙인데 왜 교과서에는 진화론만 언급이 되고 창조론은 가르치지 않느냐라는 주장이 일고 있죠.
만약에 종교가 논리적인 사고의 영역에 침범할려고 하지 않는다면, 과학계도 종교에 대한 직접적인 비판을 하지 않을겁니다. 실제로 신자이신 훌륭한 과학자들도 많고요.
하지만 지속적으로 종교계 특히 기독교는 교리가 과학적임을 주장하려고 합니다. 그런데 교리는 절대 과학적이지 않습니다. 이는 감정적인 부정이 아니라, 객관적으로 검정을 해봤을 때 기독교의 교리는 과학적으로 옳지 못함이 나타나기 때문에 나타나는 주장입니다. 이러한 종교의 침범이 일어나지 않는다면 종교의 주장에 대한 과학적인 반박은 없을 것입니다. 과학적인 사고가 종교의 영역이 아니듯이 믿음은 과학의 영역이 아니기 때문이죠.
왜 아이에게 종교를 교육시키면 안되는가?
아이에게 종교를 교육시킨다는게 사실 세뇌와 무엇이 다른건지 잘 모르겠지만, (성인조차 이해하기 힘든 개념인 신에 대해서 아이들에게 교육을 시킨다는게 어떻게 이뤄진다는건지 저는 잘 모르겠습니다 아이의 의견이 존중되는 것 같지도 않고요.) 그래도 아이에 대한 종교 교육은 개인의 선택의 영역으로서 존중 받을 수 있다고 생각합니다.
문제는 아이들에게 '사실'이 아닌 '믿음'을 '과학 시간'에 가르친다는 것입니다. 종교 때문에 아이가 잘못된 사실을 정설로 믿게 되는 것은 맞지 않습니다.
그리고 이보다 더욱 심각한 것은 바로 종교 특유의 '무시'를 가르치는 마지막 질문에 담긴 사상입니다.
