Van der Sar. Spectator for majority of game thanks to Ferdinand. 6
Neville. Not much opposition down his flank and service needed to be more dangerous. 5
O Shea Comfortable time until he saw Heinze s 30 minute contribution overshadow him. 5
Ferdinand Came to the rescue a couple of times when defence caught out and his deep run brought about United goal. 7
Silvestre Had a couple of customary lapses but generally not troubled by Villa attack. 5
Fletcher Put in his usual full tank of enthusiasm without imposing himself on midfield battle. 5
Keane Stormed into the opening minutes to put his marker down and Villa midfield never recovered. 6
Scholes Plenty of passing ingenuity from the midfielder that would have created string of chances on another day. 7
Park Full of energy that wooed the fans immediately but over-excited at times with his final effort. Deserved goal with shot that struck bar. 8
Rooney Villa never looked happy when he was on the ball and only stubborn blocking stopped him getting on score sheet. 8
Van Nistelrooy Poacher supreme just when United fans were wondering if Villa would ever crack. 7
Subs:
Heinze (sub O Shea 59) Back into his usual commanding routine. 7
Ronaldo (sub Park 59) Added a much needed spark. 8
Smith (sub Rooney 78) Not much time to make impact. 5
