Remember the book 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus?' 
Well, here's a prime example offered by an English professor at 
Penn.

'화성에서 온 남자, 금성에서 온 여자' 라는 책을 기억하는가? 여기에
그 최고의 표본이 될수 잇는 학생들이 잇다.

"Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem 
story.

The process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person 
sitting to his or her immediate right. One of you will then write the 
first paragraph of a short story. The partner will read the first 
paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story. The first 
person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back and forth. 
Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to 
keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking and 
anything you wish to say must be written on the paper. The story 
is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached."

-어느 대학의 영어시간에 선생님이 과제를 내주엇는데, 그것은 다른 
학생과 파트너가 되어 이야기를 지어나가는것. 처음학생이 이야기의 
첫 문단을 시작하고, 그 다음학생이 다음 문단을 잇고, 다시 처음의 학생이
이어나가는 식으로 반복해서 두 학생의 의견이 일치하고 이야기의 결말을
지으므로 완성되는 과제이다.

The following was actually turned in by two of my English 
students:

Rebecca -last name deleted, and Gary - last name deleted.

-다음은 레베카와 개리라고 하는 실제 두 학생이 제출한
과제이다.

STORY:

(First paragraph by Rebecca) - 첫 문단 by 레베카. 

At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The 
chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at 
home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in 
happier times, that he liked chamomile.
But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His
possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him 
too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was 
out of the question.

- 로리는 무슨 차를 마실지 고민하는 중이엇다. 그녀는 카모일을 좋아햇
지만, 카모일향의 차는 그녀의 전남자 칼 (carl)을 생각나게 햇다. 그의 
소유욕은 언제나 그녀를 불쾌하게만 햇을 뿐이다.
그래서 카모일은 제외엿다.

Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack 
squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to 
think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo 
named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a 
year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17, he said into his 
transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of 
resistance so far..." But before he could sign off, a bluish particle 
beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his 
ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of 
his seat and across the cockpit.

-그동안, 스카이론 4 위에 위치한 공격부대의 칼 해리스 중사는 몇년전에
만난 로리라는 골빈년과의 뜨거운 밤보다 더 중요한 일에 신경을 쓰고 잇
엇다. "해리스 중사로부터 지오스테이션 17에게 말한다." 그가 말햇다. 
"북극 궤도수립 완료. 아직 저항력은 감지되지 않고..." 하지만 
그가 말을 끝내기 전에 파란 광선이 어디서론가부터 쏘아졋고 해리스
중사는 그 충격에 그의 자리에서 조종실로 한방에 날라갓다.

He bumped his head and died almost immediately but not before 
he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one 
woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth
stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of 
Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War 
and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. 
The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared 
out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had 
passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspapers to read, no 
television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all 
the beautiful things around her.
"Why must one lose one’s innocence to become a woman?" 
she pondered wistfully.

- 그는 머리를 박고 곧바로 죽엇지만, 죽기전에 그는 그에게 연정을 
품엇던 한 여자를 잔인하게 대한것에 대해 후회하엿다. 곧바로, 지구는 
스카이론 4의 평화로운 농부들에게 적의를 더이상 품지 않앗다. 로리는 
신문에서 "국회는 우주전쟁과 우주여행을 없애는 법을 통과한다." 라는 
기사를 발견하엿다. 그 기사는 그녀를 기쁘게 햇지만 한편으로는 
따분하기 짝이없엇다. 로리는 옛날 옛적 젊엇을때를 회상하며 창가로 
다가갓다.
"왜 여자가 되기 위해 사람들은 순수함을 잃어야 하는걸까?" 로리는 
생각햇다.

Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live.
Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership 
launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted 
wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace 
Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defense
-less target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to 
destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the 
treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying
enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to 
stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium 
fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, 
in his top-secret Mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean 
floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive 
explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid, Laurie and 85 million 
other Americans. The President slammed his fist on the 
conference table.
"We can't allow this! I'm going to veto that treaty! Let's blow 'em 
out of the sky!"

-(미친 졸라길다.) 로리는 모르고 잇엇지만 그녀는 10초밖에 살 시간이
남지 않앗다. 도시로부터 수백킬로미터떨어진 곳에서 아누드리안의 
모선이 리튬 퓨전 미사일을 쏘아댓다. 반우주여행법을 만들어낸 겁쟁이
미친색기들은 이미 지구를 떠나버렷고 인간종족을 죽이려는 외계인들이 
지구로 몰려오고 잇엇다. 두시간 뒤에 아누드리안 우주선들이 무장한채
지구를 치기 시작햇다. 비밀 잠수정에 안전히 숨어잇던 대통령은 
'바보같은 로리'와 다른 8억 미국시민들이 죽어가는 걸 느낄 수 잇엇다. 
대통령은 주먹으로 탁자를 치며 말햇다.
"도저히 못참겟다! 그 법을 금지해야겟어. 그들을 내쫓아버려야해!"

This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My 
writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.

-이건 정말 말도 안된다. 이런 엉터리 과제를 계속 이어가는것을 반대한다.
나의 파트너는 폭력적이고 군국적영광을 찬양하는 청년에 불과하지 
않는다.

Steele novels."
