선생님의 회고록을 읽게 되었다. 그 중에 한국사학계가 식민사관을 극복하지 못하게 되었는지에 대한 일화를 소개하셨다. 식민사관을 극복하려는 과정에서 일어난 서울대학교 사학과 교수들과의 충돌을 회고하신 부분이다. 역사에 대한 충실한 해석은 건전한 역사관을 가지고 있을 때에라야 가능한 이야기이다. 사관이 엉망인데 좋은 역사 해석은 도출되지 않는다. 그럴 수 있다고 상상하는 것이 바보들이나 하는 짓거리다. “이 강좌는 일제하의 잘못된 역사 연구를 성찰·청산하고, 새로운 한국사학을 건설할 것을 목표로 출발한 것이기 때문에, 한국사 연구의 발전과정을 비판적으로 진실 되게 강의하고 정리하지 않으면 안 되었다. 그것은 당시의 우리 역사학이 당면한 시대적 사명이었다. 그러므로 한국의 중심 대학이고 일제의 경성제국대학을 같이 갑시다. 김 선생이 간다면 나도 가고, 안 간다면 나도 안 갈래” 하시는 것이었다. “그런데 두계 선생이 덴리 대학교에 가시니, 그 대학교에서 덴리교(天理敎)의 도복을 입히고, 예배에 참석토록 하였다는군.”이라고 덧붙이셨다. 나는 거기는 아직도 총독부 시대구나 생각하였다. 그래서 “선생님, 저는 차멀미를 많이 해서 여행을 못 합니다. 선생님만
