예술, 가까이 하기엔 너무 먼 당신. - 01

안녕하세요.. 평소에 글쓰는걸 좋아하고, 오유 눈팅 4년차.. 더이상 생길것도 없고 해서.. 틈틈히 글 써본거 여러분들과 공유하고 싶어 올려봅니다.. ^^;; 예술이란 무엇이고.. 예술의 경계는 어디까지 있을까 고민하다가 쓰게 된 글이에요.

font-size: 12pt; line-height: normal; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 이 이야기는 유희열씨가 한 대학교 강연에서 했던 말이다. 그런데 이것이 남일 같지 않은 것이, 속칭 '현업' 예술가로 활동하시는 분들 중 그들의 부모님들께서도 예술가인 경우는 극히 드물었다. 그러니 예술을 이해하는 가장 빠른 수단인 '대물림'이 제대로 이뤄지지 않았고, 이런 대물림이 없으니 미술을 좋아하는 친구를 통해 예술을 접하기는 더욱 어려웠다. 요즘에야 부모님이 하셨던 예술 활동을 이어서 하는 학생들이 많아지긴 했지만, (한마디로) 예술은 여전히 '부모님'께도 멀고, 당신에게도 먼 나라의 이야기일 것이다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 필자는 다섯 살 때부터 고등학교 때까지 미술을 했었다. 다섯 살 이면 이제 막 자기 이름이랑 나이를 한글로 말하기 시작할 땐데, 그 나이에 크레파스와 연필을 쥐고 자신만의 세계를 창조하고 있었던 것이다. 그래서 그럴까. 필자는 '전문가'는 아니지만 자연스레 미술을 좋아하게 됐고, 이쪽에 관심이 많아졌다. 하지만 필자는 미술을 전공하기 위해서 학원을 다녔던 것이 아니었다. 그래서 고등학교 때 미술을 잠시 접었다가 대학입시를 끝내고 난 뒤에서야 틈틈이 미술 관련 서적이나 전시를 다니게 되었고, 다시 한 번 미술 세계에 기웃거릴 수 있게 되었다. 그런데 성인이 되고 나서 바라본 미술의 세계는 정말 난해하기 그지 없었다. 액션 페인팅이라 하여 초등학교 때나 했었던 그림을 그리고 몇 백억씩 챙기는 미술가, 잘 보이지도 않는 크기로 조형을 해 놓고선 큰 갤러리 하나를 통째로 대여하는 조소가, 커다란 수조에 젖소를 반으로 갈라놓고 10억에 파는 미술가 등. 필자는 그들의 예술관을 '예술'로 받아들이기에는 너무나도 지식의 수준이 짧았고, 또 쉽게 납득 할 수 없었다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 하지만 이러한 장벽에도 불구하고 필자의 미술에 대한 관심과 호기심은 좀체 사그라지지를 않아서, 어떤 날에는 도슨트(미술관 도우미)를 개인 비서마냥 끌고 다니면서 작품들에 대해 일일이 물어보기도 한 적도 있었고, 서양화과 학생들이 보는 전공 서적을 두어 권 구매해서 본 적도 있었으며, 모 미술 관련 동호회에서 2년 정도를 활동하기도 했었다. 심지어 한달 내내 아르바이트를 한 돈으로 갤러리에서 30만원 짜리 유화 한 점을 덜컥 사버린 적도 있었다.(부모님은 아직도 모르신다.) 마지막으로, 지금 책상 앞에 앉아 이 글을 쓰는 순간까지도 필자는 미술에 대한 호기심과 매력에 빠져 밑도 끝도 없이 허우적대고 있다. 그렇지만 이런 말들이 필자가 미술에 조예가 깊다거나 자랑할만한 수준임을 뽐내는 것은 절대로 아니다. 필자는 여전히 미술을 좋아해서 기웃기웃 거리는 한 사람일 뿐이며, 좀 덜 떨어진 한 사람의 마니아일 뿐이다. 그리고 지금 컴퓨터 앞에 앉아 펜 끄트머리를 질겅거리며 이 글을 쓰는 가운데서도 이러한 생각은 변함이 없다. 지금 나는 '전문가'로서 이 글을 쓰는 것이 아니라, 대중을 대변하는 마음으로 이 글을 쓰고 있다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 갑자기 필자가 키워드를 잘못 선택한 것 같은 생각이 들어서 이번에는 현대인으로서 '현대미술'을 검색해봤다. 결과는 마찬가지다. 야한 사진만 좀 줄어들었지, 이번에도 무언가 예술이라고 직관적으로 해석될만한 작품은 보이지 않는다. 그런데 익숙한 사진 한 장이 눈에 들어온다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim; "이 세상에서 만삭의 임산부만큼 아름다운 것이 어디 있느냐.." 라면서 말이다.(<strike>자기는 임산부도 아닌데 왜 벗었대</strike><strike>?</strike>) 결국 이 사건은 이슈가 되고, 법정 공방까지 발전했다. 처음에는 무죄판결이 났다. 하지만 계속되는 항소 끝에 결국 대법원까지 올라갔고, 2006년에 대법원이 원심을 깨고 일부 유죄를 선고하여 형 없이 파기하는 것으로 판결이 났었다. background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 최근 가수들이 마약을 했네, 안했네와 관한 이야기들로 대중음악계와 인터넷이 뜨겁게 달궈졌다. 그들이 만든 음악이 속칭 '약 빨고 만든 음악'이라는 것이다. 어쨌든 약을 빨면(?)서 만든 음악이든 다 만들고 스트레스를 풀기 위해서 약을 했든 그 과정은 집어치우고, 그렇게 만든 음악이 만약 '들어줄'만하다면, 우리는 그 뮤지션의 음악을 예술이라고 인정하며 두 다리 쭉 뻗고 나와 내 자식들에게 이 노래를 들려줄 수 있을까? 아래의 앨범은 1966년에 나왔던 비틀즈의 앨범 "Revolver"이다. 이 앨범은 빛나는 작품성과 '어떤 요소'로 인해 평론가들에게 '최고의 환각 앨범'이라고도 평해졌는데, 그 '어떤 요소'란 비틀즈의 모든 맴버들이 LSD, 필로폰, 헤로인, 코카인, 대마초 등 온갖 마약에 빠져있었던 것을 의미했다. 어쨌든 그들의 윤리성과 상관 없이 이 앨범은 비틀즈가 판매했던 전체 앨범인 총 3억 465만장 중 판매량 Top 10에 들어가는 명반으로 기록됐다. 한 마디로 정리하면, 이 사건은 부도덕한 예술가가 만들어낸 예술도 예술로 인정해 주어야 하냐는 예술계의 논쟁이 되었고, 비틀즈는 또 하나의 전설(?)을 남기게 되었다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> 필자의 국어 실력으로는 도저히 이해하기 힘든 이 작품이 한 명문대 '교수'님의 손에서 탄생했다. 본인은 이 작품을 보고 난 뒤 문학의 예술성 앞에서 다시 한 번 고개를 갸웃거렸다. 과연 이것은 예술이며, 이 글을 쓴 작가를 교수로 임용할 만한 가치가 있다고 생각하는가? 이와 비슷하게 과거에는 연세대학교 교수인 마광수의 소설 '즐거운 사라'가 예술성 논란을 일으켰었다. 이 작품은 '조사 빼면 다 성행위.'라는 언론의 실랄한 비판과 다른 문인들의 질타를 많이 받은 작품이다. 이 작품 속에는 '사라'라는 주인공이 등장하는데, 시작부터 끝까지 소설의 초점은 사라가 함께 잔 남자들과 그 성행위들에 대한 묘사들로 이루어져 있다. 당시 이 작품이 등장했었던 1992년에는 '음란문서 유포'라는 죄목으로 책을 판매금지까지 시켰다고 한다.</div><div style="font-family: Gulim;
