Anonymous Communities: Double Edged Sword

             Through anonymous communities, many individuals can enjoy their online social relationships. People can talk and share their ideas with others about their interest. They can obtain much information from other anonymous people free of charge. Furthermore, users can discuss sensitive issues, such as political issues or social problems very freely, because users are guaranteed their anonymity. There are several controversial political events in our society. In the real world, however, it is not always free to express one's opinion because it can be offensive to someone who has another point of view. This is not the case in the online world. In addition, people can meet various types of people indirectly. By communicating with various users of community, they can improve their understanding ability about others different from them. However, in spite of these many right functions, there exist undeniable adverse effects of them. Exchanging ideas with others in the anonymous communities, people mistakenly communicate erroneous information. This wrong contents spread very quickly through an online-communication. It is impossible to hold responsible for spreading wrong information. What is worse, some people post anti-social contents on communities without sense of guilt due to an anonymity. Rather, they enjoy others' responses about these controversial contents. Lastly, person who shows his/her generosity in real life can be abusive in the anonymous world. Therefore, there is high probability of cyber bullying.
